Houston Heights Queen Anne Victorian Home

Craftsman style homes and Victorian homes are the most common style in Houston Heights. The low-slung Craftsman style came about ca 1910-1920’s in the Heights. Prior to this were the tall, more ornate Victorian homes. This 1907 Houston Heights Victorian home at 314 W 13th street, is a perfect example of the Queen Anne Victorian.

From the front of the house it is not apparent that a 600 SF addition was added to rear. Being in a historic district, keeping the front elevation original is critical.

The interior however has had a stunning transformation. See photos and details below.

It is 1750 SF on 4400 SF lot. 3 bedrooms, 2 baths MLS# 87749845

This beautifully renovated home has classic exterior Victorian features:  asymmetric, has vertical lines, tall steep roof, bay windows, transoms, decorative details, tall windows. It is pretty much the opposite of a Craftsman style home.

What isn’t classic though is the interior.

This home has a spacious completely open living area, compared to the tiny, chopped up rooms typical of Victorians.

The original tall ceilings and tall windows adds even more to the open feel.
The home is warm and inviting.

This Victorian home was lovingly renovated and expanded in 2014. Bosch convection oven, Bosch ultra quiet dishwasher. Sharp drawer microwave. Electrolux counter-depth refrigerator/freezer stays with house.

The River White granite looks like marble but is much denser and more durable. The factory made cabinets have extremely tough and smooth finish, compared to site-built.

This breakfast room was part of the addition to the house. It leads out through French doors to private deck. The other door goes to a dream laundry room. See photo of it and much more detail in YouTube video.

The side deck is accessed from breakfast room.

This house is in a historic district of the Heights. In keeping with its history, the new addition was sided with the same tear drop siding as the original. Not only is the house designed for indoor/outdoor living, it is within walking distance of some of the Heights greatest eating spots: Presidio, 8 Row Flint, Lola, more. Also nearby is Heights Mercantile and the being built is Heights Waterworks.

Hike and Bike trail and parks just down the street.

The master suite was also added in 2014. It opens to deck and fenced back yard.
Everything about this home looks luxurious. The master bath has marble look tile, frameless glass shower, refinished 1913 claw foot tub, block paneling. The second bath is just as stunning. Call Rich Martin for more info or to visit.
